Spain's Partido Popular presses government over delayed aid payments and NATO summit stance

The opposition Partido Popular (PP) has tabled a non‑legislative proposal demanding that the regional government of Asturias settle overdue subsidies owed to third‑sector organisations, especially those supporting people with disabilities. The PP claims more than €1.5 million remains unpaid, with some entities facing debts exceeding €400,000, forcing them to take loans to cover staff salaries and social‑security contributions.

Separately, the PP has lodged a request in the Congress for a clear and cohesive Spanish position ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara on 7‑8 July. The party warns of internal contradictions within the government and urges a firm commitment to the Alliance’s agenda, emphasizing the importance of addressing security challenges in the Mediterranean, Sahel, Maghreb and the Middle East, as well as counter‑terrorism, maritime safety and hybrid threats.
