Spain's Partido Popular pushes national highway service‑area plan

The governing opposition party, the Partido Popular (PP), has lodged a non‑legislative proposal in the Spanish Congress urging the government to create a national programme for service and rest areas on the country's main road arteries. The proposal points to a long‑standing shortage of auxiliary facilities such as rest zones, hygiene services, fuel stations and hospitality outlets, a problem highlighted by transport associations.

The PP also cites a stalled project on the A‑33 motorway near Yecla in Murcia, where a 2023 tender was awarded but no construction has begun for over three years, and calls on the government to unblock and complete the works promptly.
