Spain's Pediatric Neurology Society calls on regions to enact Early Intervention roadmap

The Spanish Society of Pediatric Neurology (SENEP) marked the National Early Intervention Day by urging all autonomous communities to implement the state‑approved roadmap published in the Official State Gazette in February. The plan aims to unify and improve Early Intervention services for children aged 0‑6 with developmental disorders, treating the service as a universal, public right. SENEP highlighted nine action lines, including reducing waiting times to a maximum of 45 days, enhancing inter‑departmental coordination among health, education, and social services, and creating a nationwide resource map.

In Andalusia, families and the Early Intervention Workers’ Platform launched a joint front to demand a “fair system” from the regional government. They condemned the current contractual model for creating long waiting lists that jeopardise child development, and they called for better labour conditions for therapists to prevent staff turnover that harms children. The coalition appealed for the immediate removal of waiting lists, stricter enforcement of existing legislation, and a renewed focus on the child’s needs as a guarantee of institutional support.
