Spain's People's Party calls for restoring surgeries at Hospital del Bierzo and oncology services in Guadalajara
The People's Party (PP) in León has pressed the Spanish government and Health Minister Mónica García to reach an immediate agreement with doctors to end the national dispute that has slashed surgical activity at Hospital del Bierzo. Between January and June 2025 the centre performed 5,313 operations, 2,120 fewer than the same period in 2026, a 39.9% drop, with monthly declines of up to 55%. The party attributes longer waiting lists to this loss of routine and emergency surgeries.
In Guadalajara, the regional PP has urged the Castilla‑La Mancha government and the regional health service (SESCAM) to reinforce the University Hospital’s oncology units. It cites months‑long delays in breast‑cancer diagnostics, radiology, pathology and radiotherapy, staff shortages and an over‑burdened MRI scanner. The party proposes adding a new MRI machine and hiring additional specialists to restore timely cancer care.
