Spain's pepper export value rises 10% in first half of 2026
Spain exported about 415,000 tonnes of peppers between January and May 2026, virtually unchanged from the same period a year earlier. However, the export value jumped to €1.057 billion, a 10 % increase over 2025, driven mainly by higher unit prices while volume stayed flat.
In the Almería production area, pepper output fell 4 % in the 2025/26 season and the average price of greenhouse vegetables rose 12 % versus the previous season. Input costs also climbed sharply – fertilizer prices up 27 %, fuel up 50 % and labour costs up 3.1 %. Pepper remains Spain’s top vegetable export by revenue and the second‑largest by volume after lettuce.
Research to improve sustainability continues with the HARMONY project in Almería, running until 2028, which aims to develop biopesticides and biological plant‑protection systems to reduce crop losses and chemical use.
