PP summons ex‑cabinet chief Juanma Serrano to Senate over SEPI “cloacas” scandal

The Popular Party (PP) announced it will summon Juan Manuel Serrano, former chief of staff to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, to appear before the Senate’s commission investigating the State Industrial Holdings Company (SEPI). Serrano has been indicted in the so‑called “cloacas” case that links him with Leire Díez and alleged public‑contract rigging. The PP claims he is involved in “double‑sided corruption” and a “state delinquency” designed to conceal other corrupt practices.

In the same week the PP plans to question PSOE leader Cristina Narbona and the Guardia Civil’s Deputy Operational Director Manuel Llamas, also implicated in the Leire Díez investigation. PSOE officials have expressed concern over the growing list of associates under judicial scrutiny, which includes former ministers, the ex‑president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and other party figures such as Santos Cerdán.

The series of summonses and indictments underscores a widening corruption probe that could affect the governing party’s standing ahead of upcoming elections.
