Spain's PP and Vox drive budget cuts to Red Cross and launch immigration‑crime study

The People's Party (PP) and Vox have reached an agreement in the regional legislature to remove €10,000 from the Red Cross emergency fund and redirect it to a study on the alleged link between immigration and delinquency. The amendment also adds objectives for police to collect data on “new criminal realities” tied to demographic changes, strengthen controls on illegal housing, and coordinate protocols against fraud and over‑occupation.

At the same time, representatives of Catalonia’s social and solidarity economy argue that combatting the far‑right’s anti‑immigrant rhetoric requires improving material living conditions. They propose that cooperatives and community projects be recognised as political actors, supporting tenant unions, feminist and anti‑racist movements, and housing cooperatives to counter extremist narratives.

Both initiatives reflect a broader political effort to address immigration, security and social welfare through budgetary and civil‑society measures.
