Spain's PP‑Vox coalitions slash municipal cooperation budgets
In the Balearic municipality of Marratxí, the PP‑Vox administration cut its annual contribution to the Fons Mallorquí de Solidaritat from €10,000 to €1,500, an 85 % reduction. Local parties and NGOs warned that the cut threatens projects such as the health programme for Sahrawi children in Tinduf.
In the autonomous region of Extremadura, the PP‑Vox regional government reduced the budget of the Agencia Extremeña de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AEXCID) from almost €11 million to roughly €2‑2.7 million. The move led the Movimiento de Mujeres Migrantes de Extremadura to refuse €78,216 in aid, prompted the resignation of the agency’s director, and saw the agency folded into a smaller unit within the regional administration. Both decisions reflect a shift toward prioritising local social services over international development aid.
