Spain's Princess Leonor Makes First Appearance at National Military Parade

Princess Leonor, the 20‑year‑old heir to the Spanish throne, attended the Day of the Armed Forces in Vigo on 30 May, marking her inaugural participation in the country's premier military event. She arrived with her parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, to watch a large land and air parade and later joined a reception where she met senior commanders from the army, navy and air force.

Leonor is completing the final year of her officer training at the Air and Space Academy in San Javier, after stints at the Army Academy in Zaragoza and the Naval School in Marín. The three‑year programme ends in July, after which she will study political science at the Carlos III University in Madrid and is slated for promotion to lieutenant in the following year. Her younger sister, Princess Sofia, did not attend as she has not undergone any military training.
