Spain's regional budgets face approval battles with opposition parties

The mayor of Puente Genil, Sergio Velasco, presented the draft municipal budget for 2026, stressing that its approval is essential to maintain core public services such as aid for dependent residents, municipal utilities, the indoor pool concession and urban transport. He warned that without the budget, these services could not be funded and called on all political groups to act responsibly.

In the Valencian Community, the regional government approved its 2026 budget after a pact between the People’s Party (PP) and Vox. The PP accepted 99 % of Vox’s demands, rejecting every proposal from the opposition parties PSPV‑PSOE and Compromís, a move the opposition described as a surrender to Vox’s agenda. Both cases highlight growing political friction over budget approvals in Spanish regions.
