Spain's regional education authorities face court rulings on inspector appointments and union expression
The High Court of Justice of Navarra (TSJ) annulled for a second time the regional regulation governing temporary education‑inspector appointments after a challenge by the Union Sindical de Inspectores de Educación (USIE). The court struck down parts of the 2025 order that the Navarra government had issued to replace a previous rule, finding the changes unjustified. The government’s appeal to the Supreme Court was rejected, leaving the department to draft a new regulation.
In Cantabria, a judge ordered the regional education department to restore a virtual poster that the teachers’ union STEC had posted, which criticized regional officials Sergio Silva and María José Sáenz de Buruaga. The court held that the removal violated the union’s freedom of expression and ordered the department to bear court costs.
