Spain's regional festivals honor Virgin Blanca and restore Virgen de Las Nieves
In Vitoria, the annual festivities celebrating the patron Virgin Blanca highlighted the recent visit of Pope Leo XIV to Spain. During his pilgrimage, the Pope urged focus on human dignity, dialogue and compassion, messages echoed in local celebrations.
In Los Palacios, the historic image of the Virgen de Las Nieves was returned to the parish of Santa María la Blanca after a four‑month conservation project by the Institute Andaluz de Patrimonio Histórico. Technicians repaired cracks, removed dust and oxidised varnish, and reinstated original colours, allowing the statue to be displayed with its original gold coronation and a vanilla‑coloured velvet mantle.
Both events underscore the role of religious heritage in Spanish community life, combining contemporary papal guidance with the preservation of centuries‑old devotional icons.
