Spain's Renewable Energy Push Gains Momentum in Aragón Forum and Canary Islands Battery Projects

The Aragón Leaders Forum brought together regional officials, industry representatives and technology institutes to discuss how renewable energy, infrastructure and storage can drive economic growth, innovation and job creation in the region. Speakers emphasized the shift from viewing energy solely as a climate policy to seeing it as a pillar of competitiveness and sovereignty, highlighting Aragón's renewable resources and its potential to attract industrial investment.

Separately, Naturgy announced the development of several hybrid photovoltaic‑battery projects in the Canary Islands, including BESS El Escobar and BESS Piletas I, with a total investment of over €19 million. Funded partly by EU recovery funds, the projects will add 22.5 MW of power and 78 MWh of storage capacity, raising the archipelago's renewable capacity to 168 MW and supporting grid stability and the transition to clean energy.
