Spain's Sierra towns feature free natural swimming pools for summer visitors

In the Sierra de Aracena, the town of Cañaveral de León in Huelva province offers a free public pool known as La Laguna de Cañaveral. The historic irrigation basin, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural, is fed by a natural spring, keeping the water cool in summer and attracting families and tourists. The municipality maintains the site with a donation box to support its upkeep.

Further north, the Sierra de Gredos presents several villages—Candeleda, Piedralaves, Arenas de San Pedro, Casavieja and Hoyos del Espino—that provide natural pools, chilled mountain streams and shaded valleys. These spots are promoted as ideal weekend getaways for residents of Madrid and other regions seeking relief from the heat, offering swimming, hiking and traditional local cuisine.
