Spain's Social Security Pension Spending Hits Record €14.432 billion in July
In July 2026 Spain’s Social Security paid a record €14.4319 billion in contributory pensions, a rise of 6.2 % compared with the same month a year earlier. The month saw 10,517,634 pension payments to more than 9.5 million beneficiaries.
Retirement pensions made up 73.4 % of the total bill, amounting to €10,589.3 million, while widow’s, disability, orphan and family‑member benefits received €2,287.7 million, €1,330.6 million, €185.7 million and €38.7 million respectively. The average pension across all schemes was €1,372.2, 4.6 % higher than July 2025, and the average retirement pension was €1,573.7, up 4.5 %.
More than 1.6 million pensions included the gender‑gap supplement, whose average monthly amount was €76.8 and whose recipients were 71 % women. Up to July, 184,196 new retirement pension claims were registered; 11.9 % of these were delayed voluntary retirements, raising the average age of retirement entry to 65.4 years.
