Peninsula, a supplier of hybrid marine fuels, and Evos, a storage operator, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build dedicated biofuel storage at Evos' terminal in the Port of Algeciras. The agreement foresees up to 60,000 cubic metres of capacity, which will be reserved for Peninsula to store and blend marine biofuels locally for the shipping market.

Evos will handle the engineering, permitting and construction of the facility, while the project remains subject to a final investment decision by Evos. Peninsula CEO John A. Bassadone said the partnership responds to accelerating biofuel adoption driven by price volatility of conventional fuels and EU regulations such as FuelEU and the EU ETS, allowing the company to control product quality and offer flexible blending ratios. Evos CEO Daan Vos highlighted Algeciras' strategic position near the Strait of Gibraltar and its role as a major bunker hub, noting that the new infrastructure will strengthen the port’s contribution to lower‑carbon shipping.

The development is part of broader efforts to decarbonise marine fuels and support the growing demand for low‑carbon alternatives in the Mediterranean maritime corridor.
