Movimiento Sumar leadership overhaul as Lara Hernández resigns

Lara Hernández, the general coordinator of the left-wing platform Movimiento Sumar, announced her resignation from all party posts after an internal investigation into alleged workplace harassment was archived. She described the probe as a "campaign of discredit" and said she had endured months of false accusations.

The resignation comes just before the party's extraordinary assembly scheduled for 11 July, where a new leadership slate will be confirmed. The only candidacy officially registered before the June 30 deadline is headed by Congress spokesperson Verónica Martínez Barbero, with State Secretary for Social Rights Rosa Martínez as the second candidate. Hernández was not included on this list.

The episode deepens an ongoing internal crisis that has seen previous departures, including former Organization secretary Laura Moreno and other senior figures. The turmoil unfolds as Sumar maintains its electoral alliance with Más Madrid, IU and the Comunes ahead of upcoming general elections, but without a clear candidate for the coalition.
