Spain's Summer Home Cooling Tips Emphasize Light Textiles and Ventilation

Home‑decor experts advise several low‑cost measures to keep indoor spaces comfortable during the intense summer heat expected across the interior of Spain. Blocking direct sunlight with partially lowered blinds, curtains or external shades reduces heat gain, while opening windows for cross‑ventilation in the early morning or evening helps expel warm air.

The choice of fabrics also influences perceived temperature. Natural, breathable fibers such as cotton and linen are recommended for bedding, sofa covers and other home textiles because they absorb moisture and allow air circulation. Light‑coloured materials—white, beige or sand tones—reflect sunlight better than dark shades. Conversely, fabrics with high polyester content retain heat and should be avoided. Reducing heavy blankets, thick rugs and layered décor further lightens the visual and thermal load of rooms.

Additional suggestions include arranging furniture to avoid obstructing airflow, using lightweight outdoor coverings on balconies or terraces, and incorporating plants for visual cooling. These passive strategies aim to improve comfort without increasing reliance on air‑conditioning.
