Spain's summer hotel prices fall 20‑23% as tourism shifts to buyer's market
A recent analysis of hotel‑booking data shows that travelers who book 0–7 days before departure save an average of 31 percent compared with those who book three to four months ahead, and checking in on a Sunday is about 9 percent cheaper than a Saturday. January is the cheapest month for travel, while the last week of July is the most expensive for domestic trips.
At the same time, Spanish tourism operators are cutting prices after five years of steady hikes. Destinations such as Mojácar on the southern coast, Mallorca and Tenerife have seen package‑holiday rates drop by more than 20 percent year‑on‑year. The price reductions respond to weaker household budgets in Europe, higher energy costs, inflation and growing fatigue with mass tourism, especially as a record‑hot summer is forecast for the Mediterranean.
Swedish tourists are expected to benefit from the lower rates, with many opting to wait for last‑minute deals rather than book far in advance.
