Bilbao's Aste Nagusia festival centers on Basque language promotion and cultural events

The pirate collective Donostiako Piratak announced that the upcoming Aste Nagusia in Bilbao will spotlight the Basque language, with the Bagera Donostiako Euskaltzaleen Elkartea lighting the festival’s opening pyre on 8 August. Onintza Enbeita was named the 46th pregonera, describing the role as “the greatest demonstration of love” she has received.

In the province of Álava, the town of Erías will hold its traditional August 8 festivities with religious ceremonies, music, games and a community lunch. Nearby Gernika scheduled a series of five concerts from 14 to 17 August, while the province of Segovia offers a weekend of concerts, theatre and folk events in venues such as the Real Fábrica de Cristales and local festivals.

The cultural summer continues in Riello with literature, music and theatre programmes, and in Alía with the XIV Feria Agroalimentaria y Artesanal supported by the Junta de Extremadura. A Veiga plans a month‑long agenda of concerts, traditional games and stargazing events. Navarra also lists a weekend of diverse concerts from 6 to 9 August.

These events illustrate a broad wave of regional cultural celebrations across Spain during August, emphasizing local traditions, music and community participation.
