Spain's Summer Theatre Festivals Draw Thousands of Attendees
The 27th edition of the Festival de Teatro de Olite, organized by the Government of Navarre and Fundación Baluarte, ran from 17 July to 2 August 2026 across Olite, Tafalla, Beire, Pitillas and San Martín de Unx. The festival featured 31 performances by 27 companies, including theatre, dance, circus, clown, magic, music and performance art, and attracted more than 9,000 spectators, setting a record for the event.
Meanwhile, the Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Mérida continued its programme in the Roman Theatre and other venues in Mérida. Highlights included a screening of the award‑winning Lebanese film *Un mundo frágil y maravilloso* by director Cyril Aris, and the stage production *Caronte. La Rebelión de las Almas* presented by TPTC Teatro. The Mérida festival also offered a series of classic‑theatre performances such as Mamet’s *Cómicos de Roma*.
Both festivals showcased a mix of classic and contemporary works, drawing local and regional audiences to Spain’s historic cities during the summer cultural season.
