Spain's Tax Agency upgrades customs surveillance fleet

The Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) is upgrading its Customs Surveillance Service fleet through new technology contracts and vessel deliveries.

Plexus has been awarded a contract worth 2.6 million euros to equip 12 patrol boats with advanced surveillance systems. These upgrades include thermal and daylight cameras, as well as gyro-stabilized systems, designed to detect and track vessels from several kilometers away in low visibility or nighttime conditions. The technology aims to bolster operations against drug trafficking and smuggling, while also supporting maritime search and rescue efforts.

Separately, Rodman Polyships has completed the delivery of the ‘Audaz VIII’, the eighth and final unit in a contract for high-speed Rodman 55 patrol boats. These vessels, which will be based in Huelva, utilize waterjet propulsion and have reached speeds exceeding 65 knots during sea trials. The fleet is designed for patrolling, interception, and law enforcement operations.
