Spain's tourism and hospitality sectors show growth

The tourism sector in Galicia showed strong performance during the 2026 summer season, with hotel profitability increasing by 8.2% and total hotel revenues reaching 160.7 million euros, an 8% rise compared to 2025. The region recorded over 4.9 million nights in tourist accommodations, a 2.1% increase from the previous year, marking a historical high for this period. This growth was driven by a 4.4% increase in average length of stay, which rose to 2.3 nights.

International tourism played a significant role in this growth, with international demand increasing by 13% compared to the summer of 2025. International tourists accounted for 22% of total overnight stays in Galicia, surpassing one million nights for the first time during the summer period.

In the broader Spanish hospitality market, Meininger Hotels has announced an expansion strategy following the successful launch of its first Spanish location, Meininger Barcelona Fira Gran Via. The Barcelona hotel reported 800,000 euros in revenue and a 50% occupancy rate during its first two months of operation. The company plans to open a hotel in Madrid in September 2028 and is targeting a total of nine establishments and 1,500 additional rooms across Spain.
