Spain's tourism sector expands as hotels grow and travelers seek fee‑saving tips

N26’s director for Spain and Portugal, Antón Díaz, advised travelers to avoid hidden fees by choosing the local currency on payment terminals and withdrawing cash from official bank ATMs abroad, noting that using a card without exchange‑rate commissions lets the card handle the conversion more cheaply.

At the same time, a Colliers report highlighted divergent trends in Spain’s two largest urban tourism markets. Madrid recorded a record 10.4 million visitors in 2025 and added nearly 2,000 hotel rooms under development, boosting its RevPAR to €125.9. Barcelona, while seeing slightly fewer tourists, maintained the highest profitability with a RevPAR of €143.1, an occupancy of 80.7 % and an ADR of €177.4, thanks to limited hotel supply and strong international demand.
