Spain's traffic agency DGT mandates V‑16 beacons and explains new S‑63b road sign

The Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) has issued a summer‑time safety campaign urging drivers not to leave the car without a V‑16 emergency beacon in the glove box. The high‑intensity light device is promoted as a replacement for traditional warning triangles, reducing the need for occupants to exit a disabled vehicle. The agency also announced the deployment of new mobile speed radars in road‑work zones to enforce reduced speed limits and protect both workers and motorists.

In a separate update, the DGT refreshed its road‑sign catalogue, introducing the blue S‑63b sign that indicates a three‑lane carriageway will split, with the central lane dividing into two left‑hand and two right‑hand lanes. The sign is intended for high‑capacity highways and junctions, helping drivers anticipate lane changes before a bifurcation.
