Spain's transport sector sees record bus ridership in Valladolid and faster Vigo‑Madrid AVE

The municipal bus service Auvasa in Valladolid recorded unprecedented demand, reaching 13.9 million trips between January and May and a total of 2.86 million journeys for the period, a 7 % rise over the previous year. Youth usage surged, with two million young passengers validating tickets—an 11.3 % increase—while cash payments jumped 20 % as the city promotes universal accessibility.

In parallel, the high‑speed AVE line between Vigo and Madrid will cut travel times to under four hours from 15 July. The latest phase of work in the Guadarrama tunnel restores seven minutes previously lost, allowing the fastest service to run in 3 hours 50 minutes and aligning several daily schedules to the new timings.

Both developments reflect a broader boost in Spain’s public‑transport usage and service improvements aimed at enhancing passenger experience and connectivity.
