Spain U17 women's basketball team wins silver at World Cup

Spain's under‑17 women's basketball team secured the silver medal at the World Cup after an 82‑73 defeat to the United States. The squad, coached by Isabel Fernández, led much of the game and held a 73‑73 tie with just over two minutes remaining before the Americans closed the gap with a decisive run. Star forward Isabel Hernández scored a tournament‑high 28 points and was regarded as the best player of the competition.

The silver marks Spain's third consecutive medal in the U17 World Championship, underscoring the Spanish Basketball Federation's focus on youth development. Other notable contributors included Amelia Alonso (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Paula Valenzuela (9 points). The achievement follows a recent silver by the Spanish U20 men's team at the European Championship, highlighting a broader wave of success for Spain's basketball programs.
