Spain's UGT cancels road transport strike after early‑retirement agreement

The Federation of Services, Mobility and Consumer (FeSMC‑UGT) announced the cancellation of the sector‑wide road‑transport strike that had been scheduled for 22 June. The decision follows a meeting with Secretary of State for Social Security and Pensions Borja Suárez Corujo, in which the union secured a written commitment from the Ministry that the administrative files for early‑retirement coefficients for professional drivers will be processed.

UGT had initially planned an indefinite strike from 8 June over delays in the retirement‑benefit files, later postponing it to 22 June due to a papal visit. The union described the earlier situation as an "absolute administrative blockage and uncertainty" concerning applications filed in October 2025. While the rival union CCOO did not back the action and industry groups warned of its impact, the Ministry clarified that the necessary health‑mortality reports are being finalised and will be sent to the relevant inspection bodies. UGT said it will maintain vigilance over the implementation of the commitments without renouncing its demands.
