Spain's UGT union and Ecoembes extend collaboration to advance circular economy

UGU Servicios Públicos and the environmental organization Ecoembes have renewed their cooperation agreement, signing a new pact to promote waste reduction, reuse and recycling across Spain. The agreement was signed by UGT's general secretary Isabel Araque and Ecoembes' director of external relations Begoña de Benito, and includes training programmes for workplaces and public awareness campaigns on proper packaging management, eco‑design and prevention throughout the product lifecycle.

In Galicia, the regional government (Xunta) held talks with the waste‑management association Circularis, which represents operators FCC, Urbaser, PreZero and Valoriza, to explore joint initiatives that align with new EU circular‑economy targets. The Xunta recently allocated €5.1 million to fund 170 projects in 83 municipalities, supporting modernisation of clean‑point networks, composting, and separate collection to improve municipal waste treatment.

Both initiatives aim to strengthen Spain's transition to a circular economy by enhancing collaboration between public authorities, unions, and private waste‑handling operators.
