Spain has declared 211 zones as catastrophes after a wave of wildfires across 14 autonomous communities, with the total area burned exceeding 170,000 hectares. The largest blaze, the Vall d'Uixó fire in the Serra d’Espadà, has consumed roughly 7,200 hectares, forced the evacuation of more than 16,000 residents and confined about 65,000 people in surrounding towns.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez visited the advanced command post at Vall d'Uixó, warning that the coming hours would be “difficult and complex.” He announced that the cabinet will approve a royal‑decree law designating the most affected areas as zones gravely affected by a civil‑protection emergency and called for a State Climate Pact, describing climate denial as “the worst fuel” for the emergency. Opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo also urged cooperation among national and regional administrations to combat the fires.
