Spain's vegetable season ends strong as grape market faces Egyptian price pressure

Spain’s main vegetable season, running from September to June, concluded with prices in July markedly lower than the previous high‑price period, while the average price in Almería for the 2024/25 season surpassed the prior year’s level. Overall revenue was reduced due to the season’s timing. At the same time, the Spanish grape harvest began with a smaller yield but good quality, and prices fell below those at the start of the last season. Exporters report that cheaper Egyptian grapes are undercutting Spanish sales in the United Kingdom and Germany, and competition from Italian seedless varieties is increasing. Producer Antonio Caballero expects sales to improve later in the season but warns that continued price drops could make the season difficult. The company has also expanded its packaging facilities, adding 2,500 m² of cooling and sorting space.
