Spain's wine industry sees rise in natural wines and heritage recognition

The Spanish wine industry is experiencing a significant shift toward minimal intervention and natural wines. While the term ‘natural’ lacks a unified legal certification, many producers prefer labels such as ‘minimal intervention’ or ‘respectful wines’ to describe their process of using wild yeasts and avoiding added sulfur. Spain, a global leader in organic vineyard surface area, is seeing a new generation of viticulturists focus on small-scale, artisanal projects and minority grape varieties to preserve regional identity.

In recognition of the broader wine culture, the Spanish Association of Wine Cities (ACEVIN) was honored during the 77th Requena Grape Harvest Festival in Valencia. The association received the award for its thirty-year commitment to protecting viticultural heritage, promoting enotourism, and supporting the economic diversification of wine-producing territories through agro-industry and industrial heritage preservation.
