Spain's World Cup 2026 campaign: Rodri values trophy over Ballon d'Or, Torres embraces new number 7

Spain captain Rodri told El Larguero that he would exchange his Ballon d'Or for a World Cup victory, emphasizing that "winning with your country is the most special thing". He highlighted Spain's past group‑stage exits in 2014, 2018 and 2022 and warned that physical conditioning will be crucial in the long tournament. The team will open Group H against Cape Verde on 15 June in Atlanta, then face Saudi Arabia and Uruguay, with matches also scheduled in Mexico.

Forward Ferran Torres confirmed he will wear the historic number 7 shirt at the tournament. The 26‑year‑old said he feels "good and confident" after two pre‑World Cup friendlies, in which he scored and assisted. He stressed the squad’s unity, noting that 26 leaders can all contribute and that the collective style will be the key to success.
