Spain's World Cup 2026 squad praised ahead of opening match

Coach Luis de la Fuente expressed confidence ahead of Spain’s opening game against Cape Verde at the World Cup in Atlanta, highlighting the form of midfielders Pedri and Fabián Ruiz. He noted veteran captain Rodri’s experience and the depth of the attacking options, including Oyarzabal, Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo, while the defensive line features Marcos Llorente, Cucurella, Cubarsí and Laporte, with Unai Simón in goal.

Mentor José Antonio Culebras, who works with Spain’s youth sides, praised the squad’s balance, performance level and the emphasis on a positive locker‑room atmosphere. He stressed that good management of the group and strong leadership are essential for success in a tournament that keeps players away from home for weeks.

Both sources conveyed optimism that the blend of talent, fitness and team cohesion positions Spain as a strong contender at the 2026 World Cup.
