Spain's World Cup triumph inspires giant land‑art tribute in Verona, Italy

Following Spain's victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, Italian land artist Dario Gambarin created a massive earthwork in Castagnaro, Verona. The piece covers about 30,000 square metres of freshly harvested wheat fields and depicts a roughly 200‑metre‑long representation of the World Cup trophy with the word "Espana" at its centre.

Gambarin fashioned the design by guiding a tractor, an plough and a rotating harrow directly onto the ground, without any preliminary sketches, satellite data or digital tools. He said the work highlights sport’s ability to unite nations and promote peace, especially amid fragile geopolitical balances. The artist has previously dedicated land‑art installations to figures such as Pope Francis, Barack Obama and Nelson Mandela.
