Spain's World Cup triumph sparks celebration in Sarawak, Malaysia

Spain defeated Argentina 1‑0 after extra time to claim the FIFA World Cup 2026 title. The decisive match was broadcast live at MBKS Square in Kuching, where around 800 football fans gathered to watch.

Spanish tourist Adrian Otero Pensado, travelling with his cousin, was the only Spaniard in the crowd. After the final whistle he lifted a replica World Cup trophy, waved Spain’s flag and was joined by local Sarawakians who hugged, cheered and danced alongside him, turning the impromptu gathering into a shared celebration of Spain’s first World Cup win since 2010.
