Spain's World Cup win eases Madrid traffic and empties Sevilla streets

The Spanish national team's victory in the FIFA World Cup caused a sharp decline in vehicle movement in Madrid. Data from mobility firm Geotab showed traffic volume fell 32‑35% during the match compared with a typical Sunday, while average speed rose about 14% at night and stayed higher the following day. In central corridors where the team bus traveled, speeds slowed 20% and fuel consumption jumped 59%, with emissions rising close to 50%.

In Sevilla, major avenues such as Teodosio, Juan Rabadán, Pedro Caravaca and the area around the City Hall were almost deserted during the second half. Residents walked quietly, often with music, until the final whistle sparked a rapid surge of fans brandishing flags and chanting in the historic centre.
