Spain's Youth Ministry denounces Aragon over migrant minors' allowance cut

The Spanish Ministry of Youth and Childhood, led by Minister Sira Rego, sent an official letter to the juvenile court prosecutor warning that the Aragon regional government has withdrawn the weekly cash allowance paid to migrant children and adolescents in its protection centres. The cut does not affect Spanish‑national minors and was ordered by Aragon's Vice President Alejandro Nolasco of the Vox party.

Rego described the measure as "racist, miserable" and a violation of constitutional equality provisions, urging prosecutors to investigate potential hate‑crime and neglect of the best interests of the child. The Ministry argues the allowance supports the autonomy, development and integration of unaccompanied migrant youths.

The dispute highlights tensions between the national government and the Aragon administration over the treatment of migrant minors in Spain.
