Spallanzani Institute celebrates 90 years of research with Science Week

The Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases in Rome will host “Science Week” from September 20 to 25, 2026. The event coincides with the European Researchers' Night and marks the 90th anniversary of the Institute's foundation, as well as 30 years since its recognition as a Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization, and Healthcare (IRCCS).

General Director Cristina Matranga stated that the anniversary celebrates a history of research, innovation, and care. The program aims to make biomedical science accessible to the public, including students, families, and healthcare professionals, through over 30 interactive laboratories, film screenings, and meetings with medical researchers. Scientific Director Enrico Girardi noted the initiative serves as a mutual exchange to inform citizens about research while gathering public expectations and needs.
