Spanish agricultural and biotech firms announce expansions and leadership changes
The Spanish agricultural and biotechnology sectors are seeing significant corporate shifts. Torribas, through its Finca Mitjana division, has partnered with the Cadiz-based company Finca El Tractor. This move expands Torribas's territorial presence into the Guadalquivir valley, adding 200 hectares of cultivation. The integration diversifies the group's production beyond potatoes, onions, and calçot to include sweet potatoes, carrots, broccoli, and beets, while also mitigating climate-related production risks.
Separately, the plant biotechnology company IN VITRO is entering a new phase on its 40th anniversary following a change in shareholding. Alex Weil has become the primary shareholder, with Nicolas Nagy serving as CEO. The company, based in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, focuses on in vitro plant cultivation for agricultural and forestry applications. Moving forward, the firm aims to prioritize internationalization and R&D, leveraging its current capacity to produce approximately 2 million plants annually.
