Spanish Army deploys Skydio X10D drones to Latvia
The Spanish Army has begun deploying Skydio X10D micro-drones to its units, with the first systems already sent to Latvia for field use. These Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) are designed for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
Following an 18-million-euro contract signed in February 2025 for 114 systems—totaling 456 individual drones—the technology features advanced autonomous capabilities. The X10D utilizes artificial intelligence to navigate and avoid obstacles, even in environments where GPS signals are unavailable or jammed.
Technical specifications include a flight time of up to 40 minutes, an operational range of 10 kilometers, and high-resolution electro-optical and thermal sensors. These sensors allow for day and night operations, enabling personnel to identify threats and obtain target coordinates from protected positions. The Guadarrama XII Brigade, based in Madrid, is among the first units to receive and certify operators for the system.
