Spanish artists receive recognition in painting and watercolor competitions

Artist Noemí Gutiérrez has won first prize at the XLIX Casimiro Sainz Painting Contest in Reinosa for her work ‘Una habitación sumergida’. The competition featured 109 entries, with a final selection of 20 works. In addition to the first prize, the jury awarded honorable mentions to Alejandro Martínez García and Ricardo Sánchez. The final selected works will be displayed at the La Casona Exhibition Hall until September 30.

In another development, artist Inma Emperador will participate in the VIII International Biennial of New Techniques, Concepts, and Developments in Watercolor in Caudete, Albacete. In an exceptional decision, the jury unanimously voted to include her installation in the exhibition despite it not formally meeting the competition's standard entry requirements. The installation explores contemporary watercolor through suspended elements, focusing on the relationship between pigment, light, and spectator perception. The biennial is scheduled to open on October 2, 2026.
