Spain and Venezuela mark Acquired Brain Injury Day with calls for specialized care

On the occasion of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Day, various organizations and health authorities in Spain and Venezuela are advocating for improved medical attention and social support for those affected by the condition.

In Spain, multiple associations including ADACEA, Adace CLM, and Adaceco have issued manifestos demanding a National Attention Plan for ABI. They are calling for a state census to understand the true scale of the condition, which affects over 414,000 people in Spain, and the implementation of specific diagnostic labels upon hospital discharge to ensure continuity of care. Regional efforts are highlighted in areas such as Valencia, Andalusia, and Navarra, where specialized programs assist minors and families facing physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges.

In Venezuela, health teams in Portuguesa state conducted educational sessions to promote cardiovascular health and prevent ABI. Medical experts noted that traumatic brain injuries from traffic accidents are a primary cause of the condition, often resulting in permanent disabilities that impact both patients and their families.
