Spanish authorities arrest suspects in El Saucejo religious jewelry theft

Spanish authorities have arrested the individuals responsible for the theft of jewelry from the image of the Virgen del Rosario in El Saucejo. The theft occurred on December 5, 2025, when two individuals entered the temple during opening hours, climbed the altarpiece, and stole high-value jewelry intended for religious festivities.

The perpetrators caused physical damage to the religious image, specifically to the hands, and desecrated the sanctuary by manipulating the Tabernacle. The Guardia Civil reported that the suspects belong to an organization believed to be responsible for similar thefts in various temples across several Spanish provinces. While the suspects have been placed at the disposal of the judiciary, the stolen jewelry has not yet been recovered.
