Spanish authorities dismantle international money laundering network

Spanish law enforcement has dismantled an international criminal network that laundered millions of euros obtained through global cyber-scams. The organization utilized the purchase and export of wine and industrial machinery to reinvest illegal profits.

Following a two-year investigation initiated by the Cantabria Customs Surveillance Unit (ARVA Cantabria) and intelligence from Sepblac, nine ringleaders were arrested in Santander, Madrid, Alicante, and Tenerife. The group conducted large-scale cyber-fraud across Europe using tactics such as corporate email interception and identity theft, targeting victims in countries including Germany, Finland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, Taiwan, and Peru.

The operation involved collaboration with the National Police's Central Cybercrime Unit and Europol, alongside judicial and police authorities from Germany, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Italy, Cyprus, and North Macedonia.
