Spanish authorities expand investigation into Adamuz train collision
Investigators from the Guardia Civil have expanded their inquiry into the January 18 train accident in Adamuz, Spain. The collision involved an Iryo train bound for Madrid and an Alvia train destined for Huelva, resulting in 46 fatalities and over one hundred injuries.
While initial investigations focused on the condition of the tracks, rails, and welds, the Córdoba Judicial Police are now examining the “real state” of all railway material at the site. This includes assessing the condition of the sleepers and the ballast—the layer of crushed stone used to support the tracks—to determine if infrastructure or superstructure elements contributed to the fatal outcome.
