Spanish authorities implement new environmental compliance measures
In Spain, regional and local authorities are implementing measures to comply with tightening European environmental regulations.
In Fuengirola, the City Council and Ecovidrio are launching an information campaign to encourage glass recycling. This initiative aims to help the municipality meet the European target of achieving a 60% municipal waste recycling rate by 2030. Local officials noted an 11% increase in glass collection following previous awareness efforts.
Meanwhile, the Government of the Canary Islands has announced the creation of a technical office to assist municipalities with water sanitation and purification projects. This office will specifically support smaller towns with limited technical and economic resources to ensure they can meet the requirements of the upcoming European Directive (EU) 2024/3019 regarding urban wastewater treatment.
