Spanish authorities investigate 2021 UGT union subsidy

The Anti-Fraud Agency has opened an investigation into an 80,000 euro subsidy granted by the former Botànic government to the UGT union for its 43rd Confederal Congress held in Valencia in 2021.

Juanfran Pérez Llorca expressed concern regarding the investigation, alleging the funds were a “tailor-made” grant for the union despite legal reports suggesting it could not be awarded. He characterized the relationship between the PSPV and UGT as being too close, suggesting the subsidy was effectively self-funding. In response, PSPV-PSOE representative José Muñoz stated that the party is confident the process followed the law and noted that the party has also requested information regarding other investigations.

UGT-PV has defended the legality and transparency of the funds, expressing surprise that the matter is being raised five years after the event. The union maintains that all documentation was correctly justified and published on its transparency portal, stating they are prepared to provide all necessary information to authorities.
