Spanish authorities investigate alleged network targeting judiciary

Spanish authorities, including the Civil Guard's elite UCO unit and the Audiencia Nacional, are investigating an alleged underground network, referred to as the ‘PSOE sewers,’ intended to influence or sabotage judicial proceedings. The investigation focuses on efforts to discredit Judge Beatriz Biedma, who is overseeing the case involving David Sánchez, the brother of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

Investigators have identified a network of intermediaries, businessmen, and former judicial officials used to carry out these maneuvers. This includes the analysis of 99 videos from the YouTube channel ‘Magistrado Anticorrupción TV,’ at least 52 of which were linked to the proceedings involving the President's brother. The UCO is also examining an 18,000 euro payment made to the digital outlet Crónica Libre, suspecting it may have been used to fund the purchase of recordings from José Manuel Villarejo.

While the investigation explores whether the PSOE acted as a beneficiary or financier, the Prosecutor's Office has stated it is not yet time to indict the party as a legal entity. The probe continues despite upcoming general elections, as magistrates aim to prevent political calendars from dictating the pace of justice.
