Spanish award ceremonies honor bullfighting promoter and veteran sports journalist
The Parliamentary Bullfighting Association presented its 18th Tauromachy Awards in the Spanish Senate, recognizing journalist and editor Carlos Martín Santoyo for his three‑decade promotion of bullfighting through the programme “Grana y Oro”. Santoyo said, “I am especially happy to be in the Senate. I have always been a staunch defender of the fiesta for everyone.” Other honorees included Infanta Elena and bullfighting master Curro Vázquez.
Separately, the VIII Manuel Alcántara National Sports Journalism Prize was awarded to journalists Orfeo Suárez and Jesús Álvarez. Suárez received the best reporting award for his article on Luis Enrique’s impact at Paris Saint‑Germain, while Álvarez was honoured for a four‑decade career covering the Olympics, World Cups and Formula 1 and now chairs the Spanish Sports Press Association.
